Don’t Just Make Plans; Make Options!

I’m now on the 9th day of my very own self-imposed 30-day blog post challenge which also propelled me to restart doing other things I love and one of them is reading books. An iBook copy of a fantasy adventure story entitled TWO SPELLS was sent to me by an author named Mark Morrison from the U.S. and I can’t wait to start reading it. I wasn’t expecting to be staying at the farm for a week now so I didn’t bring the current books I am reading (I also didn’t bring more clothes and underwear, lol!) This is what happens when I don’t make options and just basically try to stick to my plan which I keep forgetting usually don’t really happen in real life! Life is full of surprises and events that we don’t really get to plan but happen anyway. Like this kind author who out of the blue gave me something nice to read. I’ll do that as soon as I’m done with my blogging tasks and other online work for today. And when I finish the book, I’ll tell you all about it here. Coz I’m a bookworm too, in case you didn’t know.

For today’s blog post, I’d like to talk about making options. It was Jennifer Aniston who said that she doesn’t make plans. She makes options. And I say to Jen, good for you! I should have done that a long time ago too!

How To Be Clear Why You Are Here

I’m now on the 3rd day of my very own self-imposed 30-day blog post challenge which also propelled me to restart doing other things I love and one of those things is reading my books, particularly Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles. I bought this book in 2009. I started reading it and finished a few chapters, then life happened and before I know it, years have passed and I haven’t continued reading the book. So I started reading it again from Chapter 1. I remember blogging about it here too: HOW TO TAKE 100% RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LIFE

I am currently in Chapter 26 when I thought to myself, why not continue blogging about it? That way, I get to analyze each chapter, be more conscious of applying the lessons and principles I learned, rather than just trying to finish the book?

So that’s what I’m doing for this post. I am going to share with you Jack Canfield’s Success Principle #2: Be Clear Why You’re Here.

Suicide and Depression – What to Do?

Do you know anyone suffering from thoughts of suicide and depression? I was reading an article from The Asian Parent about a local celebrity, Nadine Lustre, and her letter to her brother who recently passed away due to suicide when all of a sudden I found myself crying.

My own brother, about 15 years ago, almost took his own life right in front of me by stabbing his chest with a knife and I guess the article just brought back many of those dark memories. He is quite okay now, a dad of 2 kids with a 3rd baby on the way and living with his second life partner. From time to time, he still expresses sadness and depression about his first failed relationship and has had major outbursts of anger and depression, but overall, he is much better now.

I myself, dealt with major feelings of depressions and thoughts of suicide growing up. I had severe teenage angst, anxiety and panic attacks due to the pressure I was put into by my grandparents to consistently be on top of my class that carried well over into my adulthood, which I think contributed to the demise of my first marriage. While I’ve been so much better at handling negative emotions since I’ve been with my current partner of 3 years now, I must admit that it’s just lately that feelings of depression started settling in again.

A BUSY introduction

I know, I know, I KNOW. It’s been 10 days since my last post and I have so much to share! Before baby Tuz’s first birthday, my life partner, Mahal, and I have been having sleepless nights taking care of work, parental stuff and domestic duties because we wanted to celebrate our baby’s first birthday on the date of his birthday itself, which was the 17th, a Thursday. We could have just decided to have it on a weekend so all our work responsibilities have already been done by that time and we can all relax and enjoy our son’s birthday beach celebration. Well, we did enjoy, but it could have been better. And it’s all because we wanted it celebrated on the birthdate itself, which, now, looking back, has been a semi-terrible idea! Continue reading →

Like The Flowing River by Paulo Coelho

I’m not just a mother, a traveler and an entrepreneur. I am also a bookworm. I have a memory of myself as early as age ten spending hours and hours at the library because I wanted to read books from Astronomy (I decided at that young age that I was going to be an astronaut, hehehe) to cookbooks to architecture and the usual fairy tales. In short, I have already read a ton of books in my lifetime and I’d like to share here those which influenced me whether in a big or small way and has helped me changed my life for the better.

Having said that, Paulo Coelho is one of my all-time favorite authors. I have all of his books and those which I find inspirational and moving, and which I think could help my readers in one way or another better their quality of life, I will blog about here.

This book by Paulo Coelho, Like The Flowing River, is unlike his usual novels. Instead, he compiled his most cherished reflections and short stories written from 1998 to 2005 and came up with Like The Flowing River. “These are powerful tales of living and dying, of destiny and choice, of love lost and found. Sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, but always profound…”
