As a parent, I’ve always believed that education extends far beyond the walls of a traditional classroom. This belief has been a driving force behind our decision to homeschool our 7-year-old son, giving him the freedom to learn in ways that suit his interests and needs. One area that Mahal and I are particularly passionate about introducing to his curriculum is financial literacy. In today’s ever-changing world, the importance of understanding money, saving, and investing cannot be overstated. I grew up with a poverty mindset… that feeling that we’re always lacking… that belief that I’m not worthy of the good kind of life… and it took years of reading self-help books, and wealth-related books, and listening to Oprah and Tony Robbins before I was able to fairly say I that I’ve somehow overcome my poverty mindset and started my journey towards abundance. I want Tuz to have the right kind of thinking when it comes to money and wealth so that he will be able to live a more abundant, rich, and fulfilling life.

Now that the big ticket items on our wish list had been ticked off (our dream beach wedding, making sure our businesses are now up and running smoothly — Mahal takes care of our little resort Oslob New Village and restaurant Lami-an while I take care of digital marketing for my clients via my new biz VirtuPro, — and overall management of our life here in our own version of paradise), we are now about to start our travel adventure outside of the country and one of the things I think about is how fussy our son is when it comes to eating. When traveling locally, Tuz already has a list of food he is willing to eat. But how about when we visit other cultures and places where the food is totally different from what he’s used to? But before that, the truth is, this was my very first time inside any luxury brand shop. Before this visit, I only had the guts to go inside a Kate Spade shop where I bought a P20,000+k handbag (which I forget now where I put I can’t find it anywhere, huhu) after I spent almost P500K on a Black Pearl 24K gold face mask package at Alabang Town Center (where I really got duped!) I was supposed to use that money for an LV bag but these Black Pearl people are such notorious sales people, ugh! Anyway, that was almost 10 years ago. Life happened. I mostly shop online these days when I have the budget (I’m extreme… I’m super frugal most of the time but when I get hormonal, all hell breaks loose in shopping lol!) This time, I had the guts to finally come visit a Louis Vuitton shop coz it coincided with my hormonal phase and it so happens there’s a shop now in Cebu!!! 🤑🤑🤑 I was super excited! My budget was less than P500K but I was really excited to buy.

I had myself checked; even had my OB looked into my girl parts down there (I had a transvaginal ultrasound) just to be sure but she couldn’t find anything. How Much Does An Intimate Destination Beach Wedding Cost?

Saving and paying for the wedding of our dreams has been a beautiful journey… at least for me and my now husband, Mahal. It really pushed our boundaries to the limits. There were times we thought we wouldn’t be able to deal with all the anxiety that came with it but every time we remind ourselves why we’re doing it, we start feeling calm again and we go back to enjoying the process which actually started when I turned 44 Feb. of 2022, then got engaged April of that year, then got married civilly November of that same year, and finally had the beach wedding of our dreams last May 5, 2023. 

For me, personally, having achieved our dream beach wedding was not just a one-day thing like what most people say where many splurge money and some end up regretting it or worse, incurring huge debts. This is why my younger self wouldn’t have agreed to pay for what we paid for, just to get married. My younger self valued marriage more than the wedding day itself. Well, my now 45-year old self values my desires, my dreams, my life partner, his dreams, our relationship, our son, our family, our marriage… that’s why we did what we did… which felt like the longest wedding celebration in history, lol! It is not even finished yet because we haven’t had our beach wedding honeymoon series yet… just our engagement honeymoon and civil wedding honeymoon series. 😉 And whenever we hear our 7-year old son say that our wedding (he always refers to our wedding as the wedding of us three, so cute!) is the best experience and event he had experienced in his entire life every chance he gets, THAT, to us, is priceless in itself and makes it all the more worth it. I’ll share with you his wedding speech below.

Even if time turned back, we won’t have it any other way. After all, money is just money. We can always earn it back. Heck, we’ve already earned it back. We spent for a dream we were sure we can afford and we wouldn’t have done it otherwise. I feel like we’re financially wise like that… to only spend for what we can afford to pay for in cash the moment it needs to get paid, not sooner, not later. This is why for me, having planned for our dream beach wedding has been a long process of knowing myself, of getting better, of getting in touch with what is okay with me and what is not; and how strong and resourceful I can be to make this little long-time dream of mine happen with the help of my husband. No one else helped us pay for it. It was just me and my Mahal and I’m so proud of us!

Paradise Garden Resort Hotel and Convention Center Boracay: a Sneak Peek at Our Affordable Stay

Mahal and I can be very frugal when it comes to our travel spending especially when it comes to visiting Boracay because this island can be very expensive. So, for many years, whenever we’d go to Boracay, we were okay at staying in super budget accommodations that go for P600 per night, at the most P800. But after we got married, we felt like we can afford to upgrade our lifestyle a bit… so Mahal looked for an accommodation that offers excellent rooms and service but at a fraction of what guests usually pay for in similar hotels. And he found Paradise Garden Resort Hotel & Convention Center. We originally booked it for 1 week but after we saw the room, how soft the pillows are, how nice the beds are, and saw Boracay once again, we felt like 1 week won’t be enough so we booked it for a total of 2 weeks! We wouldn’t have been able to if this room was rented out for double the price we got it. We actually walked around Station 2, 3, until Bolabog beach but those that are priced similarly were way too small, cramped, and simply depressing. If we wanted to get a similar room at another similar hotel, the going price was double to triple that price! Woah! So this was really a steal! And they even upgraded us to a bigger room at no additional cost!  Watch my vlog to take a peek.
