We will be going back to Oslob soon and stay at Oslob New Village where we’ll meet with Mahal’s eldest sister, Ate Amae, who just came home from Belgium for her yearly summer break. We’ll probably stay there for a night before we head off touring Visayas (and maybe Mindanao too) just like what we did July of last year when we did the Bukidnon – Davao – Camiguin – Cagayan de Oro tour which I mentioned in my 2018 Travel Recap.
We will be bringing our car with us just like what we did January of this year when we went home to Oslob for Mahal’s and his mom’s birthday (we’ve been doing that every year since 2016).
So if you’re from Cagayan de Oro and you want to know how to get to Oslob via road trip and boat / roro rides, this post is for you. Let’s go!
WHAT TIME IS BEST TO LEAVE CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY?
That time, we left Cagayan de Oro at 2:21 PM. We had a full tank of gas for our Chevrolet Trailblazer which cost us P1900.
WHERE CAN WE EAT ON THE WAY?
We dropped by Titing’s Kitchenette located along the National Highway, Opol, Misamis Oriental for some late lunch because we haven’t had any yet due to our hectic schedule. (You may call them for more information: +63 918 920 1454 )
We ordered the following for P400.00
- 3 cups of rice
- vegetable and chicken soup,
- 2 boiled eggs
- banana in syrup
- Adobong squid
Their kitchenette is more of a big open-air canteen by the sea. It was quite refreshing considering that I haven’t had any sleep yet at that time because right after work, I already prepared myself and baby Tuz for our long road trip. So the view of the sea and the very windy environment was a breath of fresh air for me.
After lunch, we continued with our journey towards Mucas Port in Ozamis City, Lanao del Norte. We arrived there at 7:20 PM.
FROM CAGAYAN DE ORO, WHAT IS THE BEST ROUTE TO TAKE TO GET TO OSLOB?
In order to get to Oslob from Cagayan de Oro City which will approximately take you 12 hours of travel if there is no waiting time or traffic, you have to:
1. From Cagayan de Oro, drive to Mucas Port, Lanao del Norte. (approx. 3 hours)
2. At Mucas Port, catch a boat that will bring you to Ozamis Port. (approx 20-30 minutes of barge trip)
3. From Ozamis Port, Misamis Occidental, drive to Dapitan Roro Port in Zamboanga del Norte. (approx. 3 hours)
4. In Dapitan Roro Port, you catch another roro boat going to Bato Port in Santander or Samboan Port (approx 5 hours)
5. From Bato Port, you drive to Oslob New Village. (approx. 30 minutes)
HOW MUCH ARE THE FARES?

This is me literally being a MomTraNeur — Mother, Traveler, Entrepreneur. I was getting some work done using my phone’s LTE, while letting my toddler sleep, in between traffic on the road. Whew!!!
Cost of Gas:
We had our Chevrolet Trailblazer on a full tank which cost us P1,900.
Boat from Cagayan de Oro to Mucas Port fare breakdown:

HOT TIP!
The economy section of the boat from Dapitan to Bato is usually not properly ventilated before departure. So while the boat wasn’t moving yet, we felt so hot! We were there at 11:30 PM and the boat left around 3:30 AM, so that’s 4 hours of hot and uncomfortable accommodation. Better get Tourist accommodation when you travel!
MY TAKEAWAY
So we left Cagayan de Oro City at 2:20 PM and arrived at Oslob around 9:00 AM the next day… a total of around 19 hours of travel including waiting times and traffic, whew!!!
Be sure to bring extra food, water, pillows and whatever else that can make this very long road and boat trips from Cagayan de Oro to Oslob an enjoyable one!
