Though I’ve been blogging since 2000 during the advent of geocities, this particular blog of mine, MOMTRANEUR, is only 3 years old. Actually, it is about to become 3 years old on July 25 when I published my very first post here three years ago.
I would blog about twice a week then until it became intermittent because of my very hectic schedule as a mom, a traveler and an entrepreneur. I became more active again around May-June of last year when I did the 30-day blogging challenge. I even joined groups for some comment exchange. After that, my blogging got intermittent until I picked up the pieces again 19 days ago and made a commitment to blog daily from then on.
I’ve mentioned this before — I blog mainly because it makes me a happy. After all, I am a diarist by nature and I like putting down my thoughts in writing to share what I know, what I’ve learned, and what I’ve experienced. It’s okay if nobody reads them because I write these things mainly for me, so I can have something to look back to and reminisce when I’m old and grey. It also serves as my memory bank especially since my memory recall is not as sharp as before… before I had my caesarian operation during childbirth (my OB Gyne injected my spine with lots of epidural that has probably affected my brain power). Moreover, when details are documented here on my blog, it’s easy to refer back to them for future use, especially those “How to” posts of mine. Like this coming July 20, we’re off to Oslob again and now I can really budget our time and money because I’ve already blogged about how to get to Oslob from Cagayan de Oro.
On the other hand, when people do read my blog and find my articles useful, it really is such a boost in my happiness and satisfaction! Dopamine is released in my system and I feel more happy! It makes me want to write and share more!
A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON MY BLOG’s RANKINGS
ON ALEXA
I’m no techie despite being a blogger for almost 2 decades now, and even during my Sexy Nomad days when I used to have millions of views a month according to the Tech people of i.ph where I first hosted that blog of mine back in 2006 and won the People’s Choice Awards Category in the Philippine Web Awards, I really don’t care much about the numbers… until recently. My numbers are not as big as my previous blog though, not even close… ha! But it is garnering some traction since I started blogging daily again.
The first time I checked my Alexa a month ago, I remember seeing it at 6.8M. This weekend, it was at 5.65M. And just now, it’s at 4.06M and my traffic rank in the Philippines is at 21,544… even higher than some older and popular blogs I know. Wow!
Oh by the way, just in case you don’t know, the lower the number on your site’s Alexa ranking is, the better traffic and engagement it actually has, with 1 being the highest. It ranks all sites all over the world and considering that:
“As of January 2019 there were over 1.94 billion websites on the Internet.” – https://www.websitehostingrating.com/internet-statistics-facts/
.. my blog ranking at 4,061,607 is a HUGE DEAL! After 18 days of daily blogging, it increased by 2.8 million notches in Alexa! And I don’t even do blog commenting! Wowww!!! — I HAVE AN UPDATE BELOW…

ON PAGE RANK
I also checked my page rank at CheckPageRank.net (some say it’s obsolete already but I still read some 2019 articles that page rank is still important) and from 0 page rank on their site a month ago, it’s now 2. That’s another milestone for my blog! Weeee!
ON BLOG METER TOP
Then last July 4, I joined Blog Meter Top. I was Top 122 at that time, and now, I’m Top 84 among all blogs and Top 24 in the personal niche. That is another milestone for me. Wow!!!
COMPETE WITH YOURSELF
I don’t dwell much about comparing my site to other similar blogs (mostly because I don’t want to be depressed, lol!)… But as the saying goes, if you continuously compete with others, you become bitter. But if you continuously compete with yourself, you become better. Which one do you want to be, right? So, I just compete with myself, in this instance, with my blog’s previous statistics and it’s so exhilarating to see that my blog is growing its audience reach. Thank you so much! I feel like I’m no longer just writing for me, but for my growing audience too, I’m so honored!!!
COUNT ALL YOUR BLOG’S MILESTONES AND BLESSINGS
Just yesterday, I found my blog post about my love story being featured in an international dating site. Here’s a screenshot.
Then just a few hours ago, my blog post about Tony Robbins and how to raise your standards also got featured in a U.S. Daily Paper, Tony Robins News Daily.
Then the other day, I was invited by Blog Meter Top to be interviewed for their feature as blogger of the week.
I will include all these features in my Media Features Page so I won’t forget all these milestones and blessings.
HOW TO INCREASE ALEXA RANKINGS
So what did I do to help increase my Alexa rankings in just two weeks? I’m not saying that these are the ultimate things you need to do (I’m sure there are better blog posts about it out there) but I’m just basing it on the things I did which resulted to that dramatic increase in my blog’s rankings across the board.
1. BLOG REGULARLY
Google may have changed its algorithms numerous times over the years but content is still king. The more useful content you write that your readers will love, the better your blog will show up in the search engines. Therefore, create useful, easy-to-read content every single day if possible. Content now trumps backlinks. Google bots are now a lot wiser and more “human” than before. It may even penalize you for having a lot of backlinks from other sites. Just write from the heart and write more often.
2. SHARE TO SOCIAL MEDIA
Share your posts to all your social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Linkedin, Instagram, etc.) to get a wider reach.
Post to Medium, Quora and Reddit. It will open your blog to a whole new audience who might be interested in reading what you wrote. I already have accounts with these platforms since way back but it’s only recently that I’ve started posting there.
Repurpose your blog posts. Turn them to pins, IG stories and FB Stories using Canva. There are people who are not active on the other social networks but they love looking at stories and pins. You might just catch their attention and head to your blog.
3. INSTALL ALEXA TOOLBAR
Install an Alexa toolbar on your browser. This way, the websites you visit including your own, get to be read and refreshed by Alexa. They say it helps in the rankings.
Then write some more.
MY TAKEAWAY
That’s it for now. If you have a baby blog like mine, or would like to start blogging, at least you now have an idea on how to reach a wider audience so you can help and inspire people with whatever it is that you want to share to the world. But most importantly, just blog from the heart!
Happy blogging!
TODAY’s HOT TIP!
“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” – Oprah Winfrey
See you tomorrow!
Congratulations, Mommy, sa lahat ng na achieve mo! Big or small! It deserves a celebration!
Thank you din sa post mo. I totally forgot about Alexa for being so out of the blogging world. This reminded me to install it on my browser. Hehehe…
I totally agree with you. Competing with other people can really make one depressed. This line of yours sturk me the most – “But as the saying goes, if you continuously compete with others, you become bitter. But if you continuously compete with yourself, you become better.”
So, I am planning to take note of my blog benchmarks. I will try to find where I am now and try to get better from there. I have a lot of days to talk about this… I need to prioritize! Hahaha…

Whoa!! Congrats on everything! This is truly an accomplishment. I’ve had blogs in the past that I abandoned and now that I’ve started a new blog, I’m sort of competing with myself in that I’m trying to reach where I was before. Never thought about posting to Medium, however! Thank you for the tips!

Thanks so much for these insightful tips. This post has changed my life. I really like the way you put words together… and when I also read them, they come from the heart to the mouth out! This is what I am inspiring for.
This year I also started my baby blog… and I love it, surprisingly, it’s only me who reads my stories and yes- my brother whom I do force to read and comment. I do this coz I need inspiration to write more. How I wish you also read one of my pieces and yes comment. That will push me miles. (My other problem, I haven’t gone premium… still utilizing free things.. haha! But thanks alot.

Awwww… thank you! I really appreciate your kind words. I read one of your blog posts just now. I really felt your emotions. Good writing! Keep it up!
P.S. I’m also using free things as well. Maybe someday, when I’m really getting the hang of it, I will get the business or premium account for my blog. For now, this will suffice. 🙂
